Stewardship Information

Thank you to those parishioners who have sent in their commitment card for 2010. If you have not, please return your card to the church office as soon as possible. If you need a card or information, please call Ann  Harken or Laura Koman at the church office (585-2268).

If you use church offering envelopes, you probably notice that your number changes every year. This year is no different. Please do not use old offering envelopes after January 1, 2010; your contribution may be credited to the wrong envelope number.

In order to comply with federal tax regulations, any contributions received after December 31, 2009 will be posted to the member's 2010 contribution record. (This EXCLUDES contributions postmarked December 31, 2009 or before). Please indicate on your check the pledge year in which to apply your contribution. Thank you.

"It is right to give Him thanks and praise!"
On behalf of the vestry and clergy of the Church of the Advent, we offer thanks to God and to you for the generous financial support our parish has enjoyed over the past twelve months. We write also to ask that you prayerfully consider how you will choose to sustain the Advent and its mission in the coming year.

Over the next several weeks, we ask that you join us in exploring-as a parish, as households and as individuals-the multi-faceted nature of stewardship. Using the resources God has blessed each of us with is much more than a matter of money. Certainly, we are called to share our treasure with the kingdom of God. But we are just as directly asked to share our time and talent as well.

An important aspect of stewardship is sound planning. To help you better understand the Advent's fiscal needs and budgetary processes, we have offered a series of financial forums and have published articles in our parish paper and bulletins over the course of the last year. As a result, we earnestly hope that you enter this particular stewardship season with a greater grasp of the facts behind the figures. To support our church, we depend on pledges as the major source of revenue. Our goal is to have 100% parishioner participation for 2010. It will take all of us to make a difference.

The Advent has an amazing history of reaching out as Christ's hands and heart in this world. Thanks to your faithfulness that legacy of outreach continues to this day. With our new rector in place, we hope to build momentum and extend our service in the community. The future success of this call to be the light of Christ relies, in no small measure, on your generosity.

Enclosed you will find a 2010 stewardship card on which we invite you to pledge your offering to this parish.  We ask that you please turn in your pledge for 2010 by November 1 (All Saints' Day).

Once again, our tree of giving will be displayed in the front of the nave beginning October 4. Leaves will be added to its bare branches as families and individuals return their commitment cards. Just as leaf growth serves as an indicator to the health of any tree, the leaves added to our giving tree will be a clear signal of the financial prospects of the Advent for the coming year. Let us give thanks to God as we continue to bring Christ's message of love and healing to one another, to the Spartanburg community and to the world in need.

Faithfully,
